A class was held in a conference hall of Hamedan Avicenna University of Medical Sciences by the head of University Counseling Office Dr. Sohaila Panahi in vice chancellery for culture and students’ affairs of the university.

Hamedan Mefda reports that this session was about the conflict resolution skills that students must have in order to keep their personal and professional relationships strong and growing. According to the head of University Counseling Office Dr. Sohaila Panahi, students can manage their stress while remaining alert and calm by means of controlling their emotions, they can easily communicate the needs that they have without threatening, frightening, and punishing others.

Dr. Panahi continued, all of the students must be aware of other people differences and have respect for them. She also added managing and resolving conflict requires emotional maturity, self-control, and empathy. And there are some guidelines for the students to follow. At first, they must make the relationships their priority which, in this case they must not necessarily win every argument that they face with. Second one, students must focus on the present to see every problem that they have right now and try to solve them. She continued explaining that the students must be willing to forgive other people quite easily. The last thing that she expressed was the idea that student must know when to let something go which causes the students not to be aggressive on other students or natural problems.

At the end of a session Dr. Panahi concluded that conflict is a normal and even healthy part of our relationships. And it is a natural thing that two people cannot be expected to agree on everything at all times. Since relationships conflicts are inevitable, learning to deal with them in a healthy way is crucial. Dr. Panahi ended the class with a logical conclusion that when a conflict is mismanaged, it can totally harm the relationship but when it is handled in a respectful and positive way, it can provide the students with opportunity for growth. And this can strengthen the bond between people and students.
